About Phumzile
I started my career as a journalist before becoming a corporate editor, communications manager, senior director, executive director, strategic communication expert and lecturer.
I’ve been in some uncomfortable career positions, where language and cultural differences were perhaps not appreciated as well as they could be, and I’ve emerged with an impeccable interpersonal and intercultural competence reputation.
It’s the difficult situations, not the easy ones, that pushed me to grow into a highly adaptable, strategic thinker. My practical understanding of leadership communication is backed by my qualifications, a Master’s degree (cum laude) and PhD in Communication Studies from the North-West University.
I lecture part-time on leadership communication at the University of Stellenbosch Business School and I’ve adjudicated for both the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and the Marketing, Advancement, Communication in Education (MACE) Excellence Awards.
No matter how busy I am as a strategic communication executive and a mom to my daughter Nqobile, I always make time to mentor other professionals and postgraduate students.
